The residents of Ozua Cell in Kebir ward, Oli Division in Arua municipality on Monday woke up to a shocking discovery of a child’s severed head on the veranda of a house.
Milly Draleru discovered the head early morning while sweeping the compound.
After sounding an alarm to wake up neighbours, her mother Margaret Ayaru called the police.
Josephine Angucia, the West Nile police spokesperson said the yet unidentified child appeared to have been murdered from somewhere and the head placed under the veranda for unknown reasons.
Police ruled out the possibility of the body being eaten by dogs or wild animals as there was no spill over of blood in the vicinity.
“The child’s head was neatly cut off with a sharp object. We suspect that this could be the work of those involved in practicing child sacrifice,” she said.
Angucia said the Police have handed the boy’s head to Arua hospital while a death inquiry file has been opened for further investigations.
Angucia said the murdered baby is believed to be between two and three months old.
By press time Monday evening there had been no report of a missing child.
