Erawan Shrine. Formally the Thao Maha Phrom Shrine, the Erawan is a Hindu shrine in Bangkok, Thailand, that houses a statue of Phra Phrom, the Thai representation of the Hindu god of creation Lord Brahma. On 17 August 2015, a bomb exploded near the shrine, killing 20.

Today, more than ever it is not unusual to find news of worship places destroyed by terrorists in different parts of the world.

During the good old days, if a traveler or a poor man did not find any other shelter to have a rest, or even stay a night, then the closest mosque, church or Temple would be the ideal refuge.

My journey as an entrepreneur started immediately after my Senior Six at Mengo Senior School in 2000. While my friends were busy rejoicing because they were done with high school, I was thinking hard about how I would make money in my vacation. I did not want to stay in the village in Kiruhura, so hardly a week into my vacation, I lied to my father that I had to travel back to Kampala to fill in university entry forms.

Kampala.

The Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) and the National Information Technology Authority (NITA) have launched a joint online reporting platform to crack down on sexual and pornographic material posted on internet sites.

While launching the platform on Thursday, Mr James Saaka, the NITA executive director, said mobile phone and Internet penetration have created new challenges of pornography proliferation.

GULU.

A jilted resident of Gulu District on Sunday burnt his wife and himself to death accusing his parents of failing to give him bride price to marry his spouse.

Samuel Ochora, 32, a resident of Laroo Division in Gulu Municipality, is reported to have drenched himself and his wife Annet Auma, 28, with petrol before striking a match box to set him and his wife ablaze.

Talent Search

On 19th September, 2015, HALEA shall have a Talent Search Show at Bat Valley Primary School Main Hall from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm. On this show, teens, youths and young mothers who have been undergoing training throughout the year, will showcase what they have learnt through singing, dancing, musical plays and drama which among others portray the critical things affecting them and the community plus airing out different messages regarding Human Rights, Religious and cultural myths that need agent attention as well as social, economic and political challenges.
On that day, we have invited a number of guests most especially Politicians and Government Stakeholders who can always table our views to those concerned. The guests include Kampala Central Members of Parliament (Hon. Mohammed Nsereko and Hon. Nabiira Naggayi), Mayors and Youth Councilors of Kampala Central Division where we work.

Journalists were left awed by the female condom during a demonstration on how its used.

Awed by the cylindrical shaped rubber, journalists were visibly shocked because they were seeing it for the first time. (more…)

reviews03+pixWhen I joined Senior Five in 2009, I was overjoyed. It may not seem like much but for me it was a milestone. I was just two years shy of arriving at my dream of joining university.
I wanted to hold a professional job and this was one way of guaranteeing it. But my whole world came tumbling down in third term.

How it all began
It was around September 2009, on my way back home from school, to pick that term’s fees balance.
Around midday I boarded a taxi from Bulenga, on Mityana Road, heading to Old Taxi Park. My initial plan was to reach taxi park and continue to Nansana in Wakiso district where I lived with my mother.
Unfortunately, the taxi, in which I was travelling rammed into a Fuso lorry near Nateete roundabout. My last recollections of that incident are wails from people in the same taxi asking for help.
