Philanthropist Bill Gates spends millions of dollars on AIDS drug development

Billionaire and philanthropist Bill Gates, who spends millions of dollars on AIDS drug development, says he hopes for a vaccine against the disease within the next decade as a cure remains far off.

“Probably the top priority is a vaccine. If we had a vaccine that can protect people, we can stop the epidemic,” the Microsoft mogul said on the sidelines of an anti-AIDS-themed concert in Paris which he backs. (more…)

Others labour in stone quarries under the scorching afternoon sun for Sh1000 a day. At building sites boys carry loads their weight as girls toil away in gardens during school days. (more…)

The condom, called the ‘S.T.EYE’, has a built-in indicator that changes colour according to the bacterium detected. The condom can detect among others chlamydia and syphilis.
