They come with huge chunks of money and splash it around to woo the girls. Since it’s every girl’s dream to go abroad, when they see these guys they start laying traps to get them but instead end up crying after being fooled and played.
These men uses all sorts of tricks which including taking hold of the girls’ hard earned money. They always claim they are yet to convert their money from foreign to local currency so the girls end up spending their money hoping to get it back after the exchange.
They promise them marriage, take them abroad on top of getting them jobs.
These shrewd guys adopt a lavish kind of status the moment they return home. They hire posh cars from bonds and put up in posh apartments using these innocent girls’ money.
Their victims tell the story:
In 2011 I met this guy on Facebook who told me he was coming from England.
We started a relationship and I thought God had answered my prayers because I was looking for love and was tired of the local guys.
He used all the sweet words u can think of to sway me.
He told me he had taken time off dating because the ladies were not serious.
He started in boxing and calling me every the other day. As time went on, an hour would pass without listening to his voice.
He opened up to me about his plans and everything he intended to do and promised to have me manage all his businesses.
I was so happy so i told my parents, relatives and friends how I had found the love of my life.
He even introduced me to some of his relatives who seemed happy with me.
He sent me 100 dollars after three months to spend in the meantime as he prepares to come for us to do our introduction and later the wedding.
He asked me whether I had a car to which I replied no so he asked me to look for a car we would hire to use for the time he would spend in Uganda.
When he came here I picked him from the airport and we went to some hotel from where he told me he wanted to meet my parents.
After seeing him for two days we met and slept together in hotel and he gave me UShs 20,000/- the following morning.
I wanted to spend more time with him but he declined saying we would meet when they come to visit my parents.
He came with papers claiming that he needed to clear stuff he had imported so he asked me to lend him three millions which to which I obliged thinking I was helping my future husband.
He switched off his phone and cut off all communication on the day of the introduction.
I clearly had no way to reach him.
I cried and it’s then that I decided to start investigating about him.
I was shocked to find out about another lady whom he fooled into selling off her car and a house after he promised to go with her abroad to start a new life together.
Two months later he called me asking for forgiveness saying he had received an urgent call to report back to work so he was unable to proceed with the function.
From then I consider all of them conmen and I don’t even want to get anywhere close to them because they are more like hardcore thieves.
Percy Mutamba of Kabowa Church Zone tells her experience:
I was studying at a university in Nakawa when I met this guy on Facebook who promised me heaven on earth. He asked me when I was completing my studies such that he would take me with him to America.
He sent me 1,000 dollars when he was about to come to Uganda to rent a house so when he came he told me how he was going to meet my parents and marry me.
I was thrilled and made to believe he truly loved and cared for me.
He started processing my passport the days that followed and I could imagine myself in a plane to America.
He could give me everything I would ask for when he had just come but things changed when he was about to go back.
He stopped calling me and could at times hide from me.
What really hurt me the most was wasting my time .
He left me with deep wounds because he broke my virginity.
When he was about to return to US, I took my passport to the American embassy only for it to be rejected as a fake one.
Since then I have never heard from him and can’t get him on Facebook as well.
