A 27-year-old woman was arrested at the weekend at Gulu Bus Park as she was allegedly escaping with two girls aged 11 and 13 to the Kampala.
The suspect is a resident of Pagimoro village in Atiak Sub-county in Amuru District.
The mother of the two girls, Ms Patricia Alanyo, said the suspect came for Christmas at a relative’s home in the neighbourhood. She said however, that when the suspect left for Kampala, her two daughters also disappeared which made her suspicious.
However, the suspect insisted the girls were given to her after negotiations with their parents.
According to Ms Beatrice Ayot, the officer in charge of criminal investigations at Atiak Police Post, the suspect would be charged with child trafficking.
“We will investigate since that might not be her first time. She might have been doing it for some time since she is not a resident of that area, but has relatives there,” Ayot said.
Ms Ayot cautioned parents to be careful as the new school term opens at the beginning of next month. She said some wrong elements will approach parents to take their children to Kampala for studies with ill motives.
